EDITOR’S PAGE: A New Decade, A New Direction

The publishers, editors, and staff of CRST Europe would like to extend a Happy New Year to all of our readers! This upcoming year is special to us—it is our fifth year in print—and we look forward to our continued success in providing cuttingedge information and articles on hotbutton topics in ophthalmology. Before we delve into the Annual IOL Issue coverage, I would like to take a moment to recognize our Chief Medical Editors, Sheraz M. Daya, MD, FACP, FACS, FRCS(Ed), and Khiun F. Tjia, MD; our Associate Chief Medical Editor, Erik L. Mertens, MD, FEBOphth; and the countless individuals who serve as Editorial Board and Global Advisory Board members. Without their dedication to CRST Europe, we could not provide the quality publication that has served you successfully for the past 4 years. I look forward with great anticipation to 2010.

On an internal note, I would like to acknowledge Gaynor Aemissegger, the newly named Publisher of CRST Europe. Gaynor has been a dedicated and loyal team member for the past 3 years, and her enthusiasm for the ophthalmic market and life in general is contagious. Her dedication to this publication is reflected in the success we have had, and continue to have, in this market.

This is not only an exciting time for CRST Europe individually, but also for our parent company, Bryn Mawr Communications. The company's first publication, Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today, launched in September 2001. Since then, eight additional medical titles, all leaders in their individual fields, successfully penetrate the ophthalmic, endovascular, cardiology, neurology, and dermatology markets. Most recently, Bryn Mawr Communications announced its fifth and newest print addition in the ophthalmic arena, Advanced Ocular Care. This publication, focusing on the diagnosis and management of ocular disease, will debut in 2010 with eight full issues. Advanced Ocular Care will follow the same winning format as CRST Europe and the company's other medical publications, featuring a cover focus in each issue; however, what is unique about this publication is its circulation—it will mail to both ophthalmologists and clinical optometrists.

In other exciting company news, Bryn Mawr Communications continues to grow its digital library. After the success of Eyetube.net, which houses more than 1,400 videos and has approximately 22,000 registered users, the company recently launched EyeWireToday.com. This Web site promises to be the preeminent source of news and information for the ophthalmic industry.

CRST Europe is not only the fastest growing and most progressive provider of educational content in the European ophthalmic space, but we are passionate about what we do and how we do it. We come to work every day eager to provide timely and forward-looking information that stimulates our readership; promotes education; and spurs interest in new products, technologies, and techniques. This is true for CRST Europe and the entire family of products at Bryn Mawr Communications. The success of our company and the surgeons we serve is evident by the feedback we have received throughout the years. We hope to continue on this path of success for years to come, strengthening the reach of our publication and remaining the No. 1 source for ophthalmology news and information throughout Europe.

Now on to the Annual IOL Issue, for which we have invited eight surgeons to participate in a virtual roundtable on presbyopia-correcting, toric, and aspheric IOLs. The roundtable opens with introductions into the IOL markets of the United States and Europe, written by Stephen G. Slade, MD, FACS; and Erik L. Mertens, MD, FEBOphth, respectively. As always, we welcome any feedback or letters to the editor at lstraub@bmctoday.com.
