Eye-Cee One Hydrophobic IOL

The Eye-Cee One (Croma Pharma GmbH, Leobendorf, Austria) is a hydrophobic one-piece aspheric IOL with a blue-light filter. According to company literature, the lens features a dense polymer network to reduce glistening and whitening of the material to guarantee long-term stability. The 360° sharp edge at the haptic root prevents cells from migrating across the haptic-optic junction and improves capsular fusion. Anchor-wing haptics balance the contractions of the capsular bag, and the 90° haptic-optic position provides maximum capsular contact for stable IOL fixation in the capsular bag. The anchor-wing haptics minimize axis tilt and IOL movement toward the retina. The sandblasted-like surface of the edges reduces edge glare and stray light to provide optimal vision, especially under scotopic conditions. The aspheric optic design of Eye-Cee One corrects higher-order aberrations. The negative aspheric characteristic of the lens compensates for positive spherical aberration induced by the cornea, and this, according to the company, provides patients with good contrast sensitivity even when exposed to glare in low light conditions and at night. Additionally, an integrated bluelight filter, with a transmission curve similar to that of the natural crystalline lens, prevents retinal damage, eliminates blue-tinted vision after surgery, and provides good vision and contrast sensitivity even under scotopic conditions. The Eye-Cee One comes with a disposable injector.

Keratograph 4 Topographer

The Keratograph 4 Topographer (Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH, Wetzlar, Germany) noninvasively measures the break-up time (quality) and amount (quantity) of the tear film. According to company literature, the device determines the tear film break-up time using the company’s Noninvasive Keratograph Break-Up Time (NIK-BUT) method as defined by Mengher et al.1 Changes in the projected Placido rings on the cornea provide an indication of the break-up time of the tear film. An evaluation and classification based on normative data is produced automatically by the device’s software. Tear meniscus height can also be measured with the Keratograph 4 Topographer. The results are reproducible and can be documented in most electronic medical records systems.
