Pentacam HR 3-D Simulation Software Update

Oculus Optikgeräte GmbH (Wetzlar, Germany) has upgraded its Pentacam HR 3-D simulation software to include the Artiflex toric phakic IOL (Ophtec BV, Groningen, Netherlands), completing the line of Artisan (Ophtec) and Artiflex iris-fixated IOLs available on the software. According to Oculus, the upgraded software calculates the required refractive power with the van der Heyde formula, and a 3-D calculation is performed to simulate the postoperative position of the Artiflex in relation to the eye’s anterior chamber structures. The minimum clearances from the Artiflex to the endothelium and the iris to the crystalline lens are shown on Scheimpflug images and displayed on color maps. The surgeon can correct the position of the lens via drag-and-drop for height, tilt, and centration. Age-related changes in the anterior segment caused by the growing of the crystalline lens can also be simulated. According to Oculus, this update is free of charge to existing users.

Topcon KR-1W Wavefront- Topography System

The KR-1W Wavefront-Topography System (Topcon Europe Medical BV, Capelle a/d Ijssel, Netherlands) is a five-in-one instrument that performs aberrometry, topography, dynamic pupillometry, keratometry, and autorefraction. According to company literature, this device provides surgeons with the data necessary to make informed decisions about cataract and refractive procedures. It is especially helpful for postoperative objective quality of vision assessment. The system features fully automated alignment and measurement of both eyes in less than 1 minute, a 10.4-inch color touchscreen, onboard evaluation software, and simulated visual acuity assessment. It is also fully networkable in various configurations.
