When I think of the Aladdin, the three biggest points that come to mind are that (1) it is easy to use, with a self-explanatory user interface; (2) it provides accurate measurements, comparable with the Lenstar (Haag-Streit) and IOLMaster (Carl Zeiss Meditec); and (3) it offers a variety of features, enabling it to be used as any practice's flagship diagnostic device.
Together with the IOLMaster 700 and the KR-1W Aberrometer (Topcon), the Aladdin is another irreplaceable tool for my refractive cataract surgery cases requiring premium IOL implantation.
The distinguishing factor of the Aladdin is that biometry is simultaneously and quickly combined with topography, aberrometry, anterior chamber depth measurements, and pupillography. It also provides extensive information on the status of the anterior corneal surface, including the presence of corneal irregularities, higher-order aberrations, and common signs of keratoconus, which is essential in modern cataract surgery to avoid surgeon-induced mistakes.
The pupillometry function of the Aladdin system helps one to choose the appropriate premium IOL for an individual patient, and the generic toric IOL calculator allows one to easily calculate IOL power for any toric IOL currently on the market. The key of every IOL calculation is to measure the keratometry (K) accurately. Due to new measuring techniques involving the interferometer, the K readings with the Aladdin are precise.
My optometrists love this diagnostic tool because it is easy to handle, quick, and reliable, thus avoiding long patient chair times and frustrated optometrist-patient relationships.
