What is your overall impression of the Lenstar LS 900?
The Lenstar LS 900 (Haag-Streit) is an outstanding device. I am so confident in the device's keratometry (K) readings that I no longer perform manual K readings. Likewise, in cases with toric IOLs, I am more confident in the magnitude of astigmatism measured by the Lenstar LS 900 than by my two topographers. Refractive outcomes have been exceptional.
How do you use the Lenstar LS 900 in clinical practice?
I use the device preoperatively on all cataract surgery patients.
What are the advantages of the Lenstar LS 900 compared with other ocular biometry technologies?
There are several advantages to this device. First and foremost, I believe it offers the best optical biometry for accurate refractive outcomes. Second, the company has not charged for continual so-called required upgrades that may or may not provide any clinical benefit as compared with competitor devices. In fact, all software upgrades over the past 2.5 years I have owned the machine have been provided at no charge.
Finally, the technology is superlative, the footprint of the device makes it easy to use on all patients, and the hardware and software are the latest technologies. Often with other products, I have been disappointed to see that they are running an outdated version of Windows.
