EssilorLuxottica Joins Global Collaborative Community of Ophthalmic Innovation

11/13/2025

EssilorLuxottica announced its membership in the Collaborative Community of Ophthalmic Innovation (CCOI), a global, multi-stakeholder initiative dedicated to accelerating breakthrough science into real-world solutions. The CCOI brings together patients, clinicians, researchers, regulators, and industry leaders with the mission of advancing ophthalmology and unlocking the eye’s potential as a critical contributor to the broader healthcare ecosystem.

By joining the CCOI, EssilorLuxotticam said it aims to integrate its expertise in optical engineering and digital health with the community’s scientific rigor and consensus-building approach, helping to translate emerging science into meaningful patient outcomes.

“Joining the Community at the highest level of industry participation reflects our dedication to advancing ophthalmic science through industry collaboration,” said Dr. Norbert Gorny, Chief Scientific Officer at EssilorLuxottica. “By integrating our capabilities with the Community’s collective knowledge, we aim to accelerate translational research and clinical breakthroughs that will redefine how eye diseases are detected, managed, and ultimately prevented. We are also proud to bring capabilities from across our Group, including Heidelberg Engineering, whose decades of leadership in imaging and data science will help drive the next generation of evidence-based ophthalmic innovation.”

“We are honored to welcome EssilorLuxottica as a Vision Architect of the Collaborative Community on Ophthalmic Innovation,” said Malvina Eydelman, MD, CEO of CCOI. “Through this leadership role, EssilorLuxottica will help shape global standards and scientific frameworks by driving CCOI’s Endpoints Consensus Workshops and global standards initiatives–advancing a unified, patient-centered foundation for ophthalmic innovation worldwide.”

As part of its membership, EssilorLuxottica will contribute to several of the CCOI’s key scientific workstreams, including myopia, oculomics, artificial intelligence, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma. The company plans to apply its global scale and technological capabilities to accelerate progress in these areas and support the development of next-generation tools that advance eye health around the world.
