TRS-5100 Refraction System

Company Marco
Phone +1 904 642 9330
Web www.marco.com
Key Features

  • Digital refraction technology device that fits on the surgeon’s lap
  • Preprograms the entire refraction process
  • With the OPD-Scan III, generates a comprehensive picture of the patient’s total visual system

The TRS-5100 (Marco) is a digital refraction technology that allows the physician to control the refraction process with a lap-sized keypad. With the TRS-5100, the surgeon can remain comfortably seated throughout the examination, reducing repetitive stress injuries. According to company literature, the surgeon can preprogram the entire refraction process to increase efficiency.

When combined with Marco’s OPD-Scan III Refractive Power/Corneal Analyzer, the TRS- 5100 delivers a completely different approach to traditional refraction. The OPD measures the integrity of the patient’s optical pathway, generates more than 20 diagnostic measurements in 10 seconds per eye, and determines in less than 1 minute which patients will require minimal corrections or full refractive workups to achieve 20/20 vision. The TRS-5100 then rapidly completes all refractions and allows immediate verification of the patient’s old versus new prescriptions. Together, these technologies generate a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s total visual system in a fraction of the time of traditional refraction systems. Marco has branded this process as Xfractions.

IOL Formulas for the Lenstar LS900

Company Haag-Streit USA
Phone +41 31 978 01 11
Web www.haag-streit-usa.com
Key Features

  • The Masket and Modified Masket IOL calculation formulas are recommended for laser refractive surgery patients with known histories of refractive change induced by the surgical procedure
  • Both formulas are appropriate for myopic and hyperopic LASIK and PRK patients
  • Available with software version 5.0 for the Lenstar LS900

With the Lenstar software update version 5.0, Haag- Streit introduced the Masket and Modified Masket IOL calculation formulas for its Lenstar LS900 optical biometer. According to company literature, both formulas are now available and recommended for patients who have undergone laser refractive surgery and who have a known history of refractive change induced by the laser surgical procedure. The Shammas No-History formula, which is already incorporated into the Lenstar software, allows easy and reliable IOL prediction for patients who lack any clinical history after myopic LASIK or PRK.

The Masket Method was developed by Samuel Masket, MD, to provide reliable IOL power calculations for patients after myopic and hyperopic LASIK and PRK when clinical history is available. The Modified Masket formula relies on a slight amelioration of the regression formula. Using the linear relationship between the spherical equivalent of the total amount of the stable laser vision correction, it adjusts the IOL power calculation based on the Holladay 1 formula. Like the Masket Method, Modified Masket is appropriate for myopic and hyperopic LASIK and PRK patients.

Current Lenstar users can update their software to version 5.0 by visiting www.myLENSTAR.com and clicking on the EyeSuite link under Lenstar Resources.
