SMI Surgery Guidance
Solution SG3000
SensoMotoric Instruments GmbH (SMI; Berlin) launched the SG3000
surgery-guidance solution for IOLs at the annual meeting of the
European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in Paris.
According to company literature,
SMI's surgery-guidance technology
allows surgeons to position premium
IOLs based on objective data of
the eye without using manual
markers. Based on a preoperative
reference image, the SG3000 provides
automated visual guidance
for the surgeon by allowing automatic
registration and control of
the eye position under the surgical
microscope. The system guides the surgeon throughout the cataract
procedure, including the steps of patient eye confirmation, incisions,
capsulorrhexis, multifocal lens centration, and toric lens orientation. It
also provides visual guidance with real-time tracking and precise overlays
under the microscope.
EyeSuite
EyeSuite (Haag-Streit AG, Koeniz, Switzerland) biometry software for
the Lenstar LS 900 provides the user with complete biometry of the eye
and enables automatic population of the data fields in advanced IOL calculation
formulas such as Holladay IOL
Consultant (Holladay Consulting, Inc.,
Bellaire, Texas), PhacoOptics
(PhacoOptics, Aarhus, Denmark), or
Okulix (Ingenieurbüro der Leu, Hillerse,
Germany), according to company literature.
With the EyeSuite, biometric data
from the Lenstar LS 900 including
pachymetry, anatomic anterior chamber
depth, and lens thickness can be directly imported into these IOL calculation
formula software tools to improve the accuracy of IOL power prediction,
specifically in hyperopic, myopic, and post-LASIK eyes. Due to
the open architecture of the Lenstar/EyeSuite system, third- party IOL
calculation software can be directly installed on the biometer. According
to Haag-Streit, this software upgrade is free for all Lenstar LS 900 users.
Additionally, script technology introduced with EyeSuite connects the
Lenstar optical biometer to electronic medical record systems. Data can
be transferred automatically in user-definable text, xml format, or as a
PDF to improve workflow.
