RaySert IOL Injector System

Rayner Intraocular Lenses, Ltd. (East Sussex, United Kingdom), recently announced the global launch of its RaySert IOL injector system, designed for small-incision cataract surgery. With a 1.8-mm diameter external tip, RaySert enables surgeons to insert an IOL through a sub–2.5-mm incision, reducing surgically induced astigmatism, according to company literature. Initially designed for use with Rayner's C-flex range of IOLs, RaySert is a one-handed injection system that reportedly has been safely tested in incisions as small as 2.2 mm.

Femto LDV Crystal Line

Ziemer Group (Port, Switzerland) unveiled the Femto LDV Crystal Line at the European Society of Cataract & Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) annual meeting in Paris. According to the company, the Femto LDV Crystal Line, a solid-state laser, operates at a pulse rate of more than 5 MHz. Its crystal-tuned, wavefront-optimized, high-numerical-aperture optics focuses the laser beam on a tissue volume of less than 2 µm across to achieve smooth tissue dissection with minimal thermal effects, trauma, and corneal edema. A proprietary smooth in-plane circular rim cut creates a self-sealing flap border that avoids ingrowth and facilitates flap lifting.
