A Complete Guide to Refractive Cataract Surgery

This may be one of the most exciting education pieces I have ever had the honor of organizing and being part of. The educators who have contributed to the comprehensive refractive cataract surgery cover focus in this issue are some of the world’s best. I thank all the authors for the hard work they put into writing their respective sections. If you are considering starting or growing refractive cataract surgery in your practice, their words of wisdom will play an integral role in furthering your education, your staff’s understanding, and your patients’ education regarding this life-changing procedure.

I truly believe the companies of the ophthalmic industry have provided us with the technology needed to deliver a wonderful refractive cataract surgery result that restores both the clarity and reading range that a cataract patient has lost. For many patients, refractive cataract surgery ushers in the time they have hoped for, being able to enjoy the benefits of high-quality uncorrected vision at distance, intermediate, and near.

But even though the technology is there for us to deliver these results to our patients, many surgeons have not developed a comfort level in adopting what I like to call advanced cataract surgery. Hopefully, the teachings in this issue will play a role in helping bridge that gap and, ultimately, lead to more surgeons offering their patients premium options and being comfortable delivering them.

Again, I thank the wonderful authors of this most exciting, comprehensive cover focus on refractive cataract surgery for donating their time and expertise to teach us all. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I have.
